Electrical & Electronics — Tunisia
Certification Introduction
Tunisia implements a mandatory conformity assessment system for electrical and electronic products, with the NT safety certification under the jurisdiction of the National Institute of Standardization and Industrial Property of Tunisia (INNORPI) as the core requirement. Products with wireless communication functions are also required to additionally obtain wireless certification issued by the Tunisian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (OMPT). NT certification is a mandatory access threshold for electrical and electronic products to clear customs, enter the Tunisian market and be legally sold, covering most electrical and electronic products such as household appliances, lighting products, power adapters, low-voltage switchgear and consumer electronics.
Laws and Regulations
The main regulatory basis is Tunisian National Standards (NT series). INNORPI is responsible for formulating certification rules and implementing supervision, and OMPT is responsible for spectrum and radio frequency compliance supervision of wireless communication products. Products subject to mandatory certification are included in the Tunisian import supervision catalog, and uncertified products cannot complete the customs clearance process. For updates on specific product catalogs and rules, please check the official INNORPI website for confirmation.
Technical Requirements
Electrical Safety: Comply with IEC international standards and additional local requirements of Tunisian NT. The general low-voltage safety standard is NT 1.1.001, and test items include insulation performance, withstand voltage test, mechanical strength, etc.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): It is required to meet local EMC requirements, and IEC/EN standard test results are accepted for certificate conversion.
Energy Efficiency: Household appliances and lighting products need to comply with Tunisia's energy efficiency labeling system, provide energy efficiency test data and mark the energy efficiency level.
Wireless Products: Radio frequency must comply with standards such as ETSI EN 301 893, ETSI EN 301 489-17, etc., and meet the restrictions on frequency band and power.
Other Requirements: The grid voltage is 220V/50Hz, product plugs must conform to local specifications. Labels and instructions must be in bilingual Arabic and French, and overseas manufacturers need to appoint a local agent in Tunisia.
Certification Process
After the overseas manufacturer appoints a local agent in Tunisia, prepare product technical documents (circuit diagrams, instructions, test reports, etc.), submit the certification application and pay relevant fees;
Send samples to INNORPI/OMPT accredited laboratories for testing. Holders of valid international certification reports such as CB and CE can apply for a simplified certificate conversion process, and wireless products need to additionally apply for spectrum use authorization;
After passing the test and document review, the certification certificate will be issued. The validity of an NT certificate is usually 3 years, the validity of a wireless certificate is 1-2 years, and the certified product can be affixed with the corresponding certification mark for market launch.
