Electrical & Electronics — Tunisia

Certification Introduction

Tunisia implements a mandatory conformity assessment system for electrical and electronic products, with the core being NT safety certification under the jurisdiction of the Tunisian National Institute of Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI). Products with wireless communication functions must additionally obtain wireless certification issued by the Tunisian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (OMPT). NT certification is a mandatory access threshold for electrical and electronic products to clear customs and enter the Tunisian market for legal sales, covering most electrical and electronic products including household appliances, lighting products, power adapters, low-voltage switchgear, consumer electronics, etc.

Technical Requirements

  • Electrical Safety: Comply with IEC international standards and additional local requirements of Tunisian NT standards. The general low-voltage safety standard is NT 1.1.001, and test items include insulation performance, voltage withstand test, mechanical strength, etc.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Must meet local EMC requirements, and test results issued under IEC/EN standards are accepted for certificate conversion.
  • Energy Efficiency: Household appliances and lighting products must comply with Tunisia's energy efficiency labeling system, provide energy efficiency test data and mark the energy efficiency grade.
  • Wireless Products: Radio frequency must comply with standards such as ETSI EN 301 893 and ETSI EN 301 489-17, and meet frequency band and power limit requirements.
  • Other Requirements: The grid voltage in Tunisia is 220V/50Hz, product plugs must comply with local specifications. Labels and instructions must be in both Arabic and French. Overseas manufacturers must appoint a local agent in Tunisia.

Certification Process

After overseas manufacturers appoint a local agent in Tunisia, prepare product technical documents (circuit diagrams, instructions, test reports, etc.) to submit the certification application and pay relevant fees. Samples are sent to laboratories approved by INNORPI/OMPT for testing. Holders of valid international certification reports such as CB and CE can apply for a simplified process via certificate conversion. Wireless products need to additionally apply for spectrum use authorization. After passing the test and document review, the certification certificate will be issued. NT certificates are usually valid for 3 years, while wireless certificates are valid for 1-2 years. After obtaining certification, products can be affixed with the corresponding certification mark and launched on the market. As a professional technical service institution,
