Construction Machinery — Africa

Certification Introduction

Africa does not have a unified mandatory certification system for construction machinery. Each country formulates its own market access rules independently. The mainstream mandatory systems are Kenya PVOC (Pre-Export Verification of Conformity) and Nigeria SONCAP certification. Members of the East African Community (Tanzania, Uganda, etc.) are promoting regional certification mutual recognition. Most African countries include construction machinery such as excavators and cranes (HS codes 8426-8431) in the scope of mandatory control. Products without certification will be detained or returned by customs.

Technical Requirements

At the standard level, ISO international standards are generally adopted equivalently. Kenya requires compliance with the KS ISO 12100 mechanical safety standard, and specific products need to meet the KS 6357 structural safety requirements. Product test reports must be issued by CNAS-accredited laboratories, and must cover core items such as safety protection and performance indicators. Product nameplates and safety warnings must be marked in the official language of the target country. Incomplete information easily leads to rectification and order return.

Certification Process

Confirm the specific certification requirements of the target country, sort out and prepare application materials: including application form, export commercial documents, qualified product test reports and enterprise qualification documents;
Submit the application and pay the corresponding certification fee, complete the pre-review of official documents;
Cooperate to complete the pre-shipment inspection or factory audit process;
Obtain the conformity certificate for customs clearance after passing the audit.
