Certification Introduction

Mauritius implements mandatory market access certification for electrical and electronic products, regulated by the Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB), also known as MOBS certification. Products without obtained certification cannot clear customs normally and are prohibited from being sold in the Mauritian market. The certification covers most commonly used electronic and electrical categories including household appliances, audio-visual equipment, information technology equipment, lighting products, etc.

Laws and Regulations

Mauritius established a mandatory product certification system in accordance with its national Standards Act. The Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB) uniformly formulates certification rules, implements supervision, and issues certification certificates. The specific catalog of mandatory certification products needs to be checked and confirmed on the official MSB website.

Technical Requirements

Safety Testing: Corresponding standards are applied according to product categories. Audio-visual/information and communication equipment comply with MS 62368-1 (equivalent to IEC 62368-1), and household appliances comply with IEC 60335 series standards; plugs must conform to BS 1363 specifications, and power cords must pass MS 164-1 certification. Electromagnetic Compatibility: Products must meet the emission and immunity requirements of the MS 61000 series (equivalent to IEC 61000), and wireless equipment must additionally meet the current frequency band control testing requirements. Energy Efficiency Requirements: Some products included in energy efficiency regulation need to complete energy efficiency testing, and Mauritius has gradually implemented a mandatory energy efficiency labeling system. Labeling Requirements: Products must be marked with compliance warning information and certification marks in both English and French. All tests must be completed in MSB-accredited laboratories, and test reports from CNAS laboratories with mutual recognition qualifications are acceptable.

Certification Process

Prepare application materials, including product technical documents, qualified test reports, manufacturer qualification certificates and other relevant documents.

Submit the certification application to the official MSB channel and pay the corresponding application fee.

Complete product testing as required, products included in the mandatory audit scope need to cooperate with on-site factory audit.

After passing testing and audit, MSB issues the certification certificate, which is valid for three years. Certificate holders need to accept annual supervision audit, and re-apply for certification when the product undergoes major design changes.
