Electrical & Electronics — Jordan

Certification Introduction

Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) is the official competent authority responsible for product standardization, metrology and conformity assessment in Jordan. Electronic and electrical products exported to Jordan or placed on the Jordanian market must obtain JSMO certification, which is a mandatory prerequisite for product customs clearance and market launch. This certification system aims to ensure products meet Jordanian safety and environmental protection requirements, protect consumer rights, and recognize existing certification results under the international mutual recognition system to reduce enterprises' repeated testing costs.

Technical Requirements

Jordan's regulation of electronic and electrical products focuses on three core areas: electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and energy efficiency. Jordanian national standards are generally formulated by referencing or directly adopting International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and European EN standards. CB certificates, CE certificates and corresponding EN/IEC standard test reports already obtained by enterprises can be used as supporting documents for certification assessment, and full retesting is not required.

Certification Process

Exporters or manufacturers first confirm the applicable Jordanian technical regulations and corresponding standards for their products, submit certification applications to JSMO or its authorized conformity assessment body, and prepare complete technical documents covering product description, design drawings, circuit diagrams, parts list, declaration of conformity, obtained test certificates/reports, and product user manuals. JSMO or its designated body reviews the completeness and conformity of technical documents; some products require supplementary testing at JSMO-accredited laboratories. After passing review and testing, JSMO issues the Certificate of Conformity.
