Certification Introduction
Honduras implements mandatory market access certification for electrical and electronic products, supervised by the Honduran Council for Science and Technology (COHCIT). It covers mainstream categories including household appliances, information technology equipment, lighting products, power adapters and other common products. Wireless electrical and electronic products additionally require type approval from CONATEL, Honduras' telecommunications regulatory authority. Leveraging Central American regional economic integration, this certification result helps enterprises expand into neighboring markets.
Laws and Regulations
Core regulatory instruments include the Electrical and Electronic Products Safety Act promulgated in 2018 and Energy Efficiency Regulation No.012-2018. The certification system refers to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards and complies with the Central American Regional Technical Specification (RTCA). All imported and locally released electrical and electronic products must meet compliance requirements before being placed on the market.
Technical Requirements
- Safety and electromagnetic compatibility: Implemented in reference to IEC standards. Electrical safety tests (voltage resistance, leakage current, grounding continuity, etc.) and electromagnetic compatibility tests (radiated emission, immunity, etc.) are required, and all indicators must meet local limit requirements.
- Energy efficiency requirements: Parameters such as standby power consumption must comply with the requirements of Energy Efficiency Regulation No.012-2018.
- Adaptation requirements: Product electrical parameters must conform to Honduras' 127V/60Hz grid standard.
- Documentation and labeling: Application documents must be provided in Spanish, and test reports must be issued by laboratories recognized under the ILAC mutual recognition agreement; product bodies must be marked with Spanish safety warning information.
Certification Process
Enterprises submit the certification application and complete application materials, then pay relevant fees; COHCIT reviews the submitted technical documents and test reports; based on product risk level, sample inspection or factory verification is conducted when necessary; upon passing review and verification, a certificate of conformity is issued, with a validity period of 3 years, and the certificate holder is subject to annual market supervision sampling inspection.
