Electrical & Electronics — Guatemala

Certification Introduction

For electrical and electronic products exported to Guatemala, mandatory COGUANOR certification administered by the Guatemalan National Standards Council (COGUANOR) is required. This system aligns with the Central American Uniform Technical Regulation (RTCA) and is the statutory market access requirement for products entering the Guatemalan market. Uncertified products will be detained by customs or prohibited from being listed. The certificate is usually valid for 3 years, and annual market supervision sampling inspection is required. Holding internationally recognized test reports such as CB and UL can simplify the certification process.

Technical Requirements

Safety Testing: It needs to comply with IEC international harmonized standards, covering electrical insulation, dielectric strength, grounding continuity, and electric shock protection. Plastic parts need to meet the UL94 V-0 flame retardant requirement; Energy Efficiency and Performance: The cooling coefficient of performance (COP) of air conditioners is not less than 3.2, the light attenuation of LED lamps after 6000 hours of aging test does not exceed 10%, which meets the requirements of LM-79 standard, and regulated products need to be affixed with energy efficiency labels; Radio Frequency and Electromagnetic Compatibility: The radiation power density of wireless products in the 2.4GHz band needs to be less than 50mW/cm², and the overall electromagnetic compatibility performance needs to meet the requirements of RTCA 70.01:2019; Marking and Documents: The nameplate must permanently mark the Spanish certification mark, provide Spanish instruction manuals and safety warnings, and plugs must comply with local Type A/B specifications.

Certification Process

The manufacturer submits a certification application and provides test reports issued by ISO 17025/ILAC accredited laboratories and product technical documents (including circuit diagrams, instruction manuals, and a list of key components);
COGUANOR conducts document compliance review and determines whether additional localized adaptability testing is required according to the product risk level;
Complete the factory quality system inspection as required;
After passing the review, the COGUANOR certificate is issued, and the product can be cleared and marketed after affixing the compliance mark.
