Electrical & Electronics — Australia

Certification Introduction

Australia implements mandatory market access compliance requirements for electrical and electronic products. The core compliance system is the Australian Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS), which requires products to be affixed with the RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark) before they can be marketed, sold or cleared through customs. This requirement covers most powered electrical and electronic products including household appliances, consumer electronics, industrial electrical equipment, lighting, wireless electronics, energy storage products, etc., and is jointly regulated by the Australian ACMA, state electrical safety authorities and the ACCC.

Technical Requirements

Electrical Safety: In accordance with the corresponding AS/NZS series standards for products, which are aligned with IEC international standards. Common standards include AS/NZS 60335 (household appliances), AS/NZS 62368 (information technology equipment), requiring compliance with indicators such as anti-electric shock, overheating prevention, fire protection and grounding protection; Electromagnetic Compatibility: Products must comply with AS/NZS CISPR series standards, meeting electromagnetic emission limits and anti-interference requirements; Wireless products additionally need to comply with frequency band compliance requirements such as AS/NZS 4268, adapting to Australia's 230V/50Hz mains power parameters; High-risk products must obtain a conformity certificate issued by an Australian accredited body, while low-risk products can self-declare compliance.

Certification Process

Determine the risk level according to product functions, and clarify the corresponding compliance standards and certification requirements.
Complete electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility tests in accordance with corresponding standards, and obtain qualified test reports.
Prepare product technical documents, enterprise qualifications, compliance statements and other materials. Non-Australian local enterprises need to appoint a local responsible representative.
Complete registration in the official EESS database and submit all compliance certification materials.
After passing the review, affix the RCM mark on the product body or packaging, and the product can then enter the Australian market for sale.
