Certification Introduction
Motor vehicles and their components exported to Chile or placed on the Chilean market are subject to Chile's mandatory regulation. Complete vehicles must obtain the national motor vehicle control certificate before entering the market. Components are subject to different regulatory requirements based on product categories, and eligible products can enjoy preferential tariff treatment under the China-Chile Free Trade Agreement.
Laws and Regulations
The competent regulatory authority is Chile's National Customs Service (Servicio Nacional de Aduanas). Electrical components must comply with relevant regulations of the Chilean Electrical Regulator (SEC). Import of complete vehicles follows Chile's motor vehicle regulatory requirements. Import declaration must conform to the operation rules of SIDUNEA, Chile Customs' automated system. The latest requirements shall be subject to the content published on Chile's official regulatory website.
Technical Requirements
- All product labels and declaration documents must use Spanish, and the date format follows the dd/mm/yyyy specification
- To enjoy preferential tariff under the China-Chile Free Trade Agreement, products must meet the origin requirement of no less than 40% regional value content
- Electrical motor vehicle components must comply with safety standards recognized by SEC
- Complete vehicles must meet Chilean technical requirements for motor vehicle safety and emissions, and obtain the corresponding official conformity certificate
- Products must be accurately classified in accordance with the classification guidelines released by Chilean Customs
Certification Process
- Complete product pre-classification, organize the full set of declaration documents including authenticated commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, etc.
- Apply for and obtain the corresponding mandatory conformity certificate for motor vehicles and components in advance
- Submit electronic import declaration 72 hours in advance through an authorized local customs broker in the SIDUNEA system
