Automotive & Parts — Argentina

Certification Introduction

Argentina implements mandatory market access certification management for motor vehicles and their components. Complete vehicles must obtain the Vehicle Type Structure Approval (LCM) before being launched for sale. In February 2025, Argentina implemented a new import facilitation policy: mass-produced motor vehicles and their components can be cleared through customs with internationally recognized certificates, no longer requiring the original Model Configuration License (MCL), Environmental Configuration License (ECL) and Automotive Component Safety Approval Certificate (CHAS), but they still need to comply with local technical and safety requirements. Supervision is collaboratively managed by Argentina's Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment and the National Institute of Standardization and Certification (IRAM).

Technical Requirements

Complete Vehicles: Safety must meet the 12 core technical requirements specified in Decreto 26-2000, emissions must comply with Euro 6 emission standards, and noise and pollutant emissions must obtain certification from the Ministry of Environment. Components: Key safety components such as braking systems, lighting devices, seat belts, tires, etc. must comply with corresponding local IRAM standards, and ISO/SAE international standards can be adopted equivalently. The quality management system of production enterprises generally needs to meet ISO 9001 requirements. Marking Requirements: Products must be compulsorily marked with compliance marks, product model, production date and other information, and all application documents must be provided in Spanish.
