Electrical & Electronics — Yemen
Certification Introduction
Yemen implements a mandatory import conformity assessment system for electrical and electronic products, and recognizes the G-mark certification system of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO). 13 categories of low-voltage electrical and electronic products are required to obtain mandatory G-mark for market access. All electrical and electronic products exported to Yemen (falling within the scope of HS Chapters 25-29 and 31-97) must complete pre-shipment inspection in accordance with the bilateral agreement between China and Yemen before customs clearance and release.
Laws and Regulations
The main regulatory bases include: the conformity assessment regulations for imported products issued by the Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMQCO), the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for Import and Export Commodity Supervision between China and Yemen, and the G-mark certification rules for low-voltage electrical equipment of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO). Starting from October 2024, Yemen enforces mandatory energy efficiency labeling regulations for air conditioning products. The specific scope of controlled products shall be subject to the latest official announcement from YSMQCO.
Technical Requirements
Conformity assessment priority: Yemeni technical regulations and mandatory standards > international standards (IEC/ISO) > national standards of the exporting country;
Core test items: Electrical safety (corresponding to IEC 60335 (household appliances), IEC 60598 (lighting fixtures) and other series standards), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC);
Energy efficiency requirements: Air conditioning products must meet Yemen's mandatory energy efficiency standards and be affixed with the corresponding energy efficiency label;
Marking requirements: Product instruction manuals must be provided in bilingual English and Arabic. G-mark mandatory products must be affixed with the GCTS mark with a traceable QR code, and the height of the mark shall not be less than 5 mm.
Certification Process
Confirm whether the product belongs to the G-mark mandatory certification catalog, and prepare application materials (product technical documents, valid test reports, etc.);
Submit the application to an accredited conformity assessment body, complete product testing and technical document review;
After passing the review, obtain the G-mark certificate and complete GSO database registration;
Affix the required conformity mark on the product, then apply for pre-shipment inspection to the entry-exit inspection and quarantine institution in China;
Obtain the pre-shipment inspection certificate after passing the inspection, which is used for verification and release during Yemen import customs clearance.
