Electrical & Electronics — Uruguay

Certification Introduction

Uruguay is a member state of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR). Electronic and electrical products entering the Uruguayan market must meet mandatory compliance certification requirements, with certification management handled by the Uruguayan Institute of Technical Standards (UNIT) and the Uruguayan Technological Laboratory (LATU). The mandate covers a total of 28 categories of electronic and electrical products including household appliances, IT equipment, lighting fixtures, industrial low-voltage electrical equipment and communication equipment. Products without valid certification cannot clear customs or be sold on the market. The validity period of certification is generally 1-3 years, and annual supervision audits are required.

Technical Requirements

Uruguay's power supply standard is 220V/50Hz, and plugs must comply with IRAM 2063 standard. Safety requirements: Corresponding UNIT national standards are adopted, aligned with IEC series international standards: household appliances refer to the IEC 60335 series, and IT equipment refer to the IEC 60950 series; Electromagnetic compatibility: Comply with CISPR 22 and UNIT 5000 series standards; Marking requirements: All warning marks and instruction manuals must be provided in Spanish; Energy efficiency requirements: Some major product categories need to meet mandatory energy efficiency indicator requirements.

Certification Process

Confirm the product's corresponding classification and official certification standards, prepare a full set of technical documents (including product circuit diagrams, list of key components, test reports, Spanish instruction manuals, etc.) and complete the notarization and authentication of the documents;
Submit the certification application to the official authority, and send samples to an accredited laboratory for testing as required;
High-risk products need to accept on-site audit of the factory production quality system;
After all tests and audits are passed, obtain the official certification certificate, and the product can be launched on the market only after affixing the compliance mark.
