Electrical & Electronics — Suriname
Certification Introduction
Suriname implements mandatory market access certification for electrical and electronic products, which is divided into two core categories of requirements:
General electrical and electronic products need to obtain SSB certification from the Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB), covering the vast majority of consumer and industrial electrical and electronic products
Telecommunications-related electrical and electronic products additionally need to obtain TCS certification supervised by the Telecommunications Authority of Suriname (TAS). Products without the corresponding certification cannot clear customs to enter the Surinamese market, nor can they be legally sold locally.
Laws and Regulations
The main regulatory basis is Suriname's Low Voltage Electrical Equipment Act. The Suriname Standards Bureau (SSB) is responsible for compliance supervision of general electrical and electronic products, and the Telecommunications Authority of Suriname (TAS) is responsible for spectrum and radio frequency supervision of telecommunications-related electrical and electronic products. Customs compulsorily requires imported electrical and electronic products to provide valid certification documents before being released. The latest regulatory requirements shall be subject to the official information released by the Suriname Standards Bureau.
Technical Requirements
Safety Requirements: Equivalent adoption of IEC international electrotechnical standards, requiring testing of insulation performance, voltage resistance, temperature rise of terminal blocks (≤60K), and voltage withstand capability, adapting to Suriname's 127V single-phase/220V three-phase voltage system
Electromagnetic Compatibility: The product harmonic distortion rate is required to be ≤5%, and telecommunications products additionally need to meet the requirements of radio frequency performance and spectrum specifications
Labeling and Identification: It is mandatory to mark product information, instructions for use and safety warnings in Dutch, and interfaces must adapt to local Type C/F sockets
Hazardous electrical and electronic products (such as lithium batteries) need to comply with United Nations dangerous goods transport regulations, provide SDS documents and affix GHS hazard pictograms
Certification Process
Confirm product classification, clarify the type of certification that needs to be applied for (only SSB certification, or SSB+TCS dual certification);
Prepare a complete set of technical documents, including product manuals, technical parameters, qualification-compliant test reports, etc.;
Submit the certification application to the corresponding regulatory authority and pay the prescribed application fee;
Cooperate to complete document review or sampling test evaluation;
After passing the review and test, obtain the certification certificate, and after affixing the certification mark, the product can clear customs and be launched on the market.
