Certification Introduction
For electronic and electrical products sold in the Palestinian West Bank market, mandatory PMA certification issued by the Palestinian Metrology Authority (PMA, also known as Palestinian Standards and Metrology Institute, PSI) is required. This certification applies to most electronic and electrical products, including household appliances, industrial electronic equipment, lighting products, information technology equipment, etc. It covers compliance verification of product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and energy efficiency performance, and is a mandatory requirement for product customs clearance and market launch.
Laws and Regulations
Current compliance requirements for electronic and electrical products in the Palestinian West Bank follow the mandatory conformity assessment specification for electrical equipment released by PMA. There is no independent dedicated parliamentary act, and all regulatory requirements are uniformly issued and updated by PMA. The system recognizes universally accepted international standards as the compliance basis, and has not introduced localized mandatory clauses completely detached from international standards. Technical Requirements
- Core test items include electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and energy efficiency, with different requirements for different product categories.
- Safety standards generally adopt Palestinian local specifications converted from international IEC standards. For example, information technology equipment follows IEC 62368/IEC 60950 series, and household appliances follow IEC 60335 series.
- EMC requirements correspond to the international CISPR and IEC 61000 series standards. The grid supply specification is 230V/50Hz, and products must adapt to ±10% voltage fluctuation.
- All product labels and technical documents must be provided in Arabic. Products must bear the PMA certification mark after obtaining certification. Some high-risk products require additional factory consistency inspection. Products holding valid CB certification can simplify part of the testing process.
Certification Process
- Prepare complete application materials, including product manual, circuit diagram, list of key components and declaration of conformity, and complete Arabic translation as required.
- Select a PMA-accredited qualified body to complete product testing and obtain a compliant test report.
- Submit the certification application along with all technical documents and test reports to PMA.
- PMA conducts document review and arranges factory inspection for high-risk products.
- After passing the review, PMA issues the PMA certification certificate. The certificate is valid for 1 to 3 years, and renewal is required upon expiration.
