Electrical & Electronics — Ghana
Certification Introduction
GSA Certification is the G-CAP product conformity certification scheme implemented by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA). It is a mandatory market access requirement for electrical and electronic products exported to and entering the Ghana market, covering 28 categories of regulated products including household appliances, lighting equipment, information technology equipment, audio-visual equipment, wires and cables, etc. Products without valid certification will be detained, fined or returned by Ghana Customs.
Laws and Regulations
According to the Mandatory Product Certification Regulations released by the Ghana Standards Authority, the list of regulated products was updated in 2023. All regulated electrical and electronic products imported or sold locally are required to complete conformity assessment and obtain a certification certificate before customs clearance and market launch. GSA is Ghana's official competent authority, responsible for standard development, certification audit and market supervision. The latest updates on specific requirements can be checked on GSA's official website.
Technical Requirements
Safety Requirements: Implement Ghana's national GS standards (GS 1009/GS 1010/GS 1011/GS 1012 correspond to household appliances, IT equipment, audio-visual equipment and lighting equipment respectively), which equivalently adopt IEC international general standards.
Electromagnetic Compatibility Requirements: Comply with relevant CISPR series standards.
Special Requirements: Adapt to Ghana's 220-240V grid parameters, some products require additional tropical climate adaptability testing; energy-consuming products such as air conditioners and refrigerators must meet energy efficiency labeling requirements; certified products must clearly mark the GSA certification mark, product model, manufacturer information, country of origin and certification number.
Certification Process
Compare with the list of regulated products published by GSA, confirm product classification and certification requirements, and prepare application materials (including certification application form, product technical documents, test reports issued by ILAC-accredited laboratories, product label samples, etc.).
Submit the application to GSA and pay the corresponding fees. GSA completes document review, and arranges product sampling testing if required. Holders of valid IECEE CB test reports can apply for exemption from partial test items.
High-risk electrical and electronic products require additional factory inspection, and some batches of goods require pre-shipment on-site inspection.
After all links are approved, GSA issues the certification certificate, and the product can complete customs clearance and enter the market.
