Electrical & Electronics — Fiji
Certification Introduction
Fiji implements mandatory access management for imported and commercially launched electrical and electronic products, with compliance assessment supervised by the Fiji Standards Office (FTS). All imported electrical and electronic products need to complete three core compliance procedures: Electrical Equipment Safety Certification (ESL). Products with wireless functions need to additionally apply for a radio spectrum usage license, and energy-consuming electrical and electronic products need to complete energy efficiency label registration. Fiji recognizes the conversion assessment of internationally accepted certifications; test reports from Australia-New Zealand RCM certification and EU CE certification can be directly used as compliance proof, and no repeated full-project testing is required.
Laws and Regulations
The core regulatory basis is Electrical Safety Regulations 2019, which are jointly implemented by the Fiji Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Tourism and the Fiji Standards Office. Wireless equipment must comply with relevant spectrum management regulations of the Fiji Radio Administration, energy-consuming products must follow the energy efficiency registration requirements of the Fiji Energy Authority, import links must meet the registration and documentation requirements of Fiji Customs and Taxation Department, and products can only be cleared and marketed with certification documents. Compliance certificates need to be renewed annually, and importers must retain sales records for at least five years for inspection.
Technical Requirements
Safety testing adopts IEC international general standards, conventional test items include temperature rise test, insulation performance verification and flame retardant grade test;
Electromagnetic compatibility requires an EMC test report recognized by the Fiji Standards Office;
Wireless products need to additionally meet the requirements of radio frequency emission indicators;
Energy-consuming products such as air conditioners and motors need to provide energy efficiency level test reports, and refrigerants need to provide global warming potential (GWP) test reports;
Battery products need to provide UN38.3 transportation safety test certificate;
Product nameplates and packaging must be marked with product technical instructions in Fiji's official language.
Certification Process
Confirm product classification, organize product technical materials, existing qualified test certificates and reports;
Submit certification application and relevant compliance materials to the Fiji Standards Office;
If existing reports do not meet the requirements, complete the specified supplementary test items;
After passing the review, obtain the electrical equipment safety certification certificate and complete the corresponding special license/energy efficiency label registration;
Submit the compliance certificate during customs clearance, and the product can enter the market for sale after affixing the label that meets the requirements.
