Electrical & Electronics — Egypt

Certification Introduction

Egypt implements mandatory access regulation for imported electrical and electronic products, with the conformity certification led by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) as the core framework. Products without valid certification cannot complete customs clearance. The regulated scope covers more than 20 categories of electrical and electronic products including household appliances, information technology equipment, lighting products and power equipment. Among them, wireless communication and telecommunication terminal products are additionally required to obtain type approval from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt.

Technical Requirements

  • Safety requirements: Products must comply with Egyptian ES national standards (e.g., general requirements for household appliances ES 7209-1, lighting products ES 7825). IEC and EN international standards are equivalently recognized, and products that have obtained CE and GCC certification can have partial test items waived.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Products must pass radiated emission and anti-interference tests, and meet relevant Egyptian limit requirements.
  • Marking and documentation: Product manuals and technical documents must be provided in Arabic, labels must include information of the Egyptian importer; energy efficiency-controlled products such as air conditioners must be affixed with an officially recognized Egyptian energy efficiency label.
  • Wireless communication products are additionally required to meet radio frequency performance requirements and comply with relevant ETSI EN international standards.

Certification Process

First, confirm the product HS code and corresponding applicable standards, and prepare documents including valid test reports issued by ILAC-accredited laboratories, factory quality management system certificates, and importer authorization authenticated by the Egyptian embassy in the exporting country. Then, the local Egyptian importer or authorized agent submits the registration application and all required documents to GOEIC. Next, complete pre-shipment inspection or sampling verification per regulatory requirements to confirm consistency between the product and declared documents. Finally, GOEIC issues the registration certificate after approval, the certificate is generally valid for 1 year, and the corresponding compliance certificate must be presented during product customs clearance.
