Electrical & Electronics — Burkina Faso

Certification Introduction

Burkina Faso implements a mandatory compliance certification system for imported electrical and electronic products, supervised by the National Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control of Burkina Faso (ABNORM). All regulated electrical and electronic products must obtain conformity certification before customs clearance and market entry. Uncertified products face risks of customs clearance delay, fines or market exclusion. As a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Burkina Faso requires products to also meet regional harmonized regulatory requirements.

Technical Requirements

  • Safety requirements: Refer to International Electrotechnical Commission IEC 60950 standard
  • Electromagnetic compatibility requirements: Comply with CISPR 22 standard
  • Environmental protection requirements: Meet ECOWAS RoHS directive restrictions on heavy metals and hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products
  • Test reports must be issued by ILAC or AFRAC accredited laboratories; product labels must indicate French information and origin, and valid IEC system international test reports are accepted

Certification Process

  1. Submit certification application form, product technical documents, test report from an accredited laboratory and enterprise qualification materials
  2. Pay certification-related fees, calculated based on product category and cargo value
  3. ABNORM or its authorized agency conducts initial review of document completeness
  4. High-risk electrical and electronic products require additional sample testing, on-site inspection or factory quality verification
  5. After approval, a certification certificate or COC Certificate of Conformity is issued; certificates are usually valid for 1-3 years and need to be renewed on schedule
