Certification Introduction
Bahrain is a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). All electrical and electronic products entering the Bahraini market must meet mandatory compliance requirements. The core market access system is GCC unified conformity certification under local supervision by BSMD (Bahrain Standardization and Metrology Directorate). Products are required to affix the G-mark certification mark, and the "certification prior to shipment" principle is implemented. Products without valid certification will be detained by customs and returned. This requirement covers all categories of consumer and industrial electrical and electronic products.
Laws and Regulations
The Gulf Unified Conformity Certification Program implemented by GCC in 2016 shall be followed. Local supervision is the responsibility of Bahrain Standardization and Metrology Directorate (BSMD). Core regulations are based on unified technical standards issued by the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO), and products must also comply with Bahrain Customs import management regulations. Special electronic products such as lithium batteries shall additionally comply with relevant requirements for the transportation of dangerous goods. The latest regulatory details should be confirmed on the official BSMD website.
Technical Requirements
- Testing adopts the GSO IEC/ISO series of unified international standards, and core test items include electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and energy efficiency limits;
- Special product requirements: Lithium batteries must provide UN 38.3 test reports and a compliant MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet);
- Labeling requirements: Product labels must contain bilingual information in Arabic and English, clearly mark the G-mark certification mark, and be accompanied by a bilingual safety instruction manual;
- Test reports must be issued by ILAC or GCC-accredited laboratories to be valid.
Certification Process
Confirm the certification scope of the product, and prepare complete technical documents including the application form, product technical materials, test report issued by an accredited laboratory, and factory quality management qualification certificate; Submit the application to BSMD or its authorized agency; Complete sample testing as required, and high-risk products or first-time applicants are subject to on-site factory audit; Obtain the certification certificate after passing the audit and testing, and the certificate is valid for 1 to 3 years; Complete certificate filing before customs clearance, and affix the certification mark to the product before customs entry.
