The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is about to issue new regulations, under which lead-acid starter batteries for M/N/O/L category motor vehicles will be subject to a mandatory SNI certification system. After the new regulations officially take effect, there will be a 3-month transition period; upon expiration of the transition period, enforcement will be fully mandatory. At that time, products without compliant certificates may not be imported into Indonesia, nor may they be sold in the Indonesian domestic market.
I. Corresponding Standards
SNI 38:2025 (Lead-acid batteries for M/N/O four-wheel motor vehicles)
SNI 4326:2025 (Lead-acid batteries for L category two-wheel and three-wheel motor vehicles)
II. Market Access Compliance Certificates
1. SNI Certificate (valid for 5 years)
Adopts the Type-5 certification model — including factory audit (ISO9001/IATF16949) + sampled product testing.
2. SPPT-SNI (valid for 1 year)
After obtaining the SNI certificate, it is also necessary to apply for the SPPT-SNI license (SNI Mark Usage License Certificate). Only after obtaining the license may the SNI mark and electronic signature be printed on the product itself and its outer packaging, and it must be renewed annually.
III. Prerequisites for Application
1. Indonesian Representative Requirement
Overseas manufacturers need an official Indonesian representative to apply through the SIINas system.
2. Trademark Registration and Authorization Requirements
Overseas manufacturers must own their own trademark in Indonesia with DJKI (Directorate General of Intellectual Property) Class 9 (battery group) for M, N, O and/or L category motor vehicle battery products, and file a trademark license record with the Indonesian representative.
Since the SNI certification cycle is relatively long (referencing other products, more than 8 months), export enterprises are advised to start certification planning in advance to avoid affecting later orders.
