For electrical and electronic products imported and sold locally in Saudi Arabia, mandatory conformity certification led by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) is required, and all applications are processed uniformly through the official SABER online platform. The regulatory scope covers all categories of electrical and electronic products including home appliances, IT equipment, lighting products and consumer electronics; products with wireless functions need to additionally apply for certification from the Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), and all regulated products must meet SASO RoHS requirements for the restriction of hazardous substances.

Core currently effective regulations include: SASO 2870/2015 Energy Efficiency Regulation for Electrical and Electronic Products, SASO RoHS technical regulation on restriction of hazardous substances, and GSO/IEC series safety standards adopted by the Saudi Standards Organization. All imported products must hold a Certificate of Conformity (COC) issued by SASO for customs clearance, Non-compliant products cannot clear customs and will face return shipment or penalty fines.

Safety Requirements: Corresponding IEC standards are applied according to product categories, home appliances follow the IEC 60335 series, IT equipment follows IEC 60950, and lighting products follow the SASO IEC 60598-1 series. Electromagnetic Compatibility: Products must comply with CISPR series standards, and meet requirements for electromagnetic radiation emission and anti-interference. [Energy Efficiency Requirements: Key product categories such as air conditioners, washing machines and lighting must meet SASO energy efficiency indicators, and affix energy efficiency labels of corresponding grades. RoHS Requirements: Six hazardous substances are restricted, the limit for cadmium is ≤0.01%, and the limit for other hazardous substances is ≤0.1%. The exemption list can be confirmed by querying the official SASO website. Labeling Requirements: Product labels must mark trademark, rated parameters and country of origin in Arabic, and product instruction manuals must be provided in Arabic version.
