Electrical & Electronics — Ecuador

Certification Introduction

Ecuador implements mandatory market access certification for electronic and electrical products, with management categorized by product type: General electronic and electrical products (including household appliances, lighting equipment, power adapters, wires and cables, etc.) are regulated by the Ecuadorian Standards Institute (INEN), and require INEN conformity certification; radio transmission and telecommunication terminal products are regulated by the Ecuadorian Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (ARC), and require ARC type approval certification. Products without the corresponding certification cannot clear customs and are not allowed to be legally sold in the Ecuadorian market.

Technical Requirements

Safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) are general requirements for all mandatory regulated products, and some product categories need to additionally meet energy efficiency requirements; Ecuador's power grid standard is 110V/60Hz, and product design must comply with this voltage specification; Spanish compliance labels must be affixed to the product itself or its minimum sales packaging, marking the certification mark, certificate number, importer name, and country of origin; Telecommunication products additionally need to meet special technical requirements such as radio frequency parameters and wireless interference compatibility.

Certification Process

Confirm product classification, query the latest valid official standards, and select the corresponding certification mode based on the product risk level.
Submit the certification application via a legally registered entity based in Ecuador, and provide application materials including enterprise qualification, product technical documents and other required materials.
Send samples to INEN or ARC accredited laboratories as required to complete the specified test items.
High-risk product categories need to undergo an initial factory audit to confirm the consistency between mass-produced products and test samples.
After all links are approved, a certification certificate with a validity period of 1-3 years will be issued, and the product can clear customs and enter the market after affixing the required certification mark.
