Electrical & Electronics — Lesotho

Certification Introduction

  • Lesotho is a member state of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and implements a mandatory Certificate of Conformity (COC) system for imported electrical and electronic products. Products must complete conformity assessment and obtain valid documents before market access to clear customs and circulate legally.
  • For some products, conversion of test results from generally accepted international certifications (such as CE certification) is allowed, and South African NRCS certification conclusions are mutually recognized within the region.

Technical Requirements

  • Safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) are mandatory core requirements. Lesotho equivalently adopts Southern African SANS standards converted from IEC international standards: household appliance safety refers to the SANS/IEC 60335 series, and EMC testing refers to the CISPR series standards.
  • Wireless communication electrical and electronic products require additional radio frequency parameter testing to comply with regional spectrum specifications.
  • Wooden packaging must complete heat treatment or fumigation per IPPC requirements and be affixed with the corresponding mark. All certification documents must be provided in English. The certificate of origin requires consular authentication, and FORM A certificate of origin can apply for tariff preferences.

Certification Process

  1. Confirm the control requirements corresponding to the product HS code, and prepare materials including product technical specifications, test reports, enterprise qualification documents, etc.
  2. Submit the certification application to a compliance body authorized by Lesotho authorities, complete conformity assessment, and supplement regional difference testing if necessary.
  3. Obtain the Certificate of Conformity (COC) after passing the review, and submit the original certificate to customs during cargo customs clearance.
  4. After affixing the compliance certification mark on the product as required, the product can be legally launched on the market.
