Electrical & Electronics — Thailand

Certification Introduction

Thailand's electrical and electronic product certification is administered by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), and is divided into two categories: mandatory and voluntary. Products listed in the mandatory certification catalog must obtain certification before import and sales, while products outside the catalog can voluntarily apply for certification to improve market competitiveness. For products with wireless functions such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, in addition to TISI certification, additional certification from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand is required.

Technical Requirements

  • Most technical standards are equivalent to IEC international standards. Electrical safety testing follows the IEC 60335 series, electromagnetic compliance follows the IEC 61000 series, and products such as air conditioners and refrigerators must comply with the energy efficiency standard TIS 2134.
  • The rated parameter requirement is 220V/50Hz, and plugs must comply with the TIS 166 standard.
  • Product labels must include information such as the TISI mark, certificate number, and rated parameters, and core content must be marked in Thai.
  • Testing must be conducted in TISI-accredited laboratories within Thailand. Existing CB/IEC reports can only be used as reference, and additional testing for differences against Thai national standards is required.

Certification Process

  1. Confirm whether the product falls within the mandatory certification scope, determine the corresponding TIS standard number, and prepare technical documents including circuit diagrams, BOM, and Thai instruction manuals.
  2. Appoint a locally registered legal entity in Thailand as the legal representative, and the local representative submits the application to TISI.
  3. Send samples to a TISI-accredited laboratory to complete the required test items.
  4. Applications for long-term type certification require acceptance of on-site factory audit by TISI, while single-batch certification is exempt from factory audit.
  5. TISI reviews all documents, test reports and factory audit reports, and issues a 3-year valid certification certificate upon approval.
  6. After obtaining certification, products can be cleared for customs and launched to the market after affixing the TISI mark as required. Annual supervision audits are required during the validity period of the certificate.
