Electrical & Electronics — Oman
Certification Introduction
Oman is a member state of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). Electrical and electronic products entering the Omani market must comply with the unified mandatory certification requirements of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO), with supervision and implementation handled by the Directorate General of Standards and Metrology (DGSM) of Oman. The core market access requirement is G-mark certification, which covers most commonly used electrical and electronic products including household appliances, lighting equipment, information technology equipment, power adapters, etc. High-energy-consuming products are additionally required to apply for mandatory energy efficiency labels.
Laws and Regulations
Market access for electrical and electronic products in Oman adheres to GCC unified technical regulations and local compliance requirements issued by Oman's DGSM. Core rules include the G-mark certification framework regulations implemented by GSO and the GSO 2663/2021 technical regulation for energy efficiency labels. The latest update on the mandatory scope for specific products can be queried via the official DGSM website.
Technical Requirements
Safety Requirements: In accordance with IEC international standards equivalently adopted by GSO, common applicable standards include GSO IEC 60335 (Safety of household appliances), GSO IEC 60598 (Safety of luminaires), IEC 60950 (Safety of information technology equipment), etc. Products must meet Oman's national difference requirement of 240V/50Hz.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Requirements: Comply with the standard requirements of GSO IEC 61000 series and CISPR series.
Energy Efficiency Requirements: Products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and storage-type electric water heaters must meet GSO energy efficiency indicators and affix the star-rated energy efficiency labels specified by the official authority.
Labeling Requirements: Products must be marked with basic information in Arabic, affixed with the G-mark certification mark, and the importer must be a locally registered company in Oman.
Certification Process
Submit certification application, accompanied by complete product technical documentation and qualifying test reports (IECEE CB reports that include Oman's national differences are preferentially recognized);
Send samples to GSO/DGSM-accredited laboratories to complete testing of the required items;
The certification body reviews the test report and all technical documents;
After passing the review, the certification certificate will be issued, and the mark and label registration will be completed. The product can be launched into the Omani market after affixing the compliance mark.
