Electrical & Electronics — Kuwait
Certification Introduction
As a member state of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Kuwait implements a mandatory market access system for imported electronic and electrical products, with the core access scheme being KUCAS (Kuwait Conformity Assessment Scheme), regulated and enforced by the Kuwait Organization for Standardization and Metrology (KOWSMD). All electronic and electrical products entering the Kuwaiti market (including home appliances, lighting equipment, IT equipment, audio-visual products, power tools, smart home IoT devices, etc.) are required to complete this certification, and the certification certificate is a necessary document for customs clearance and legal market access. Meanwhile, Kuwait recognizes the unified GCC G-MARK certification results for market access of partial product categories.
Laws and Regulations
The current core system is the KUCAS conformity assessment regulation, which follows the unified technical specifications for low-voltage electronic and electrical products released by the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO). Kuwait locally adopts GSO standards and implements national energy efficiency regulatory requirements. For specific updates on regulations and standards, please refer to the official information released by the Kuwait Organization for Standardization and Metrology (KOWSMD).
Technical Requirements
Safety Requirements: Products must comply with GSO standards equivalent to IEC international standards, common applicable standards are: GSO IEC 60335 series for household appliances, GSO IEC 60598 for lighting products, GSO IEC 60950 for information technology equipment.
Electromagnetic Compatibility: Products must meet the electromagnetic compatibility requirements of GSO CISPR 14 series and GSO IEC 61000 series.
Energy Efficiency Requirements: 12 categories of products including air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, etc. are mandatory to meet the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), and must be affixed with an officially recognized energy efficiency label.
Marking Requirements: Products must be permanently printed with G-Mark + traceability QR code, the instruction manual must be provided in Arabic + English versions, voltage shall be compatible with 220-240V/50Hz, and plugs must comply with BS 1363 or corresponding GSO specification requirements.
Certification Process
Submit the certification application and complete technical documents, including application form, product information, circuit diagram, list of key components, and valid test reports (CB reports within 3 years are recognized).
Document review is conducted by an officially accredited body, and supplementary GSO difference testing and energy efficiency testing shall be completed if required (when applicable).
Complete pre-shipment inspection as required to verify the consistency between products and certification documents, and the compliance of product markings.
After all reviews and tests are passed, the KUCAS Certificate of Conformity (CoC) will be issued for customs clearance and market launch.
WANVE (万维) provides one-stop full compliance support for enterprise export.
