Certification Introduction

Belize implements mandatory compliance control for electronic and electrical products entering its local market, led and supervised by the Belize Bureau of Standards (BZBS). Among them, telecommunication electronic devices additionally need to obtain type approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Belize. This requirement is a necessary prerequisite for customs clearance and market sales of bulk imported electronic and electrical products. As a member state of the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), products that meet the regional rules of origin can enjoy preferential tariff treatment.

Laws and Regulations

1. Core supervision is implemented by the Belize Bureau of Standards in accordance with Belize's national safety regulations for electrical products; 2. Telecommunication electronic devices follow the radio frequency control requirements of the Public Utilities Commission of Belize; 3. Imports must comply with the unified regulations on commodity classification and document certification of Belize Customs, and used electronic devices are subject to import age restrictions; 4. Customs clearance dispute handling follows the relevant rules of the WTO Agreement on Customs Valuation.

Technical Requirements

Safety Requirements: Conventional electronic and electrical products need to comply with IEC general international safety standards, and meet basic safety indicators such as insulation, voltage resistance and fire resistance Electromagnetic Compatibility: Products need to comply with general electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements to avoid interfering with the normal operation of other devices Special Requirements: Telecommunication equipment additionally needs to meet radio frequency performance indicators; used electronic and electrical equipment needs to provide equipment age certification, and high-energy-consumption used equipment may be refused entry Document Requirements: Commercial invoices need to be certified by the chamber of commerce of the exporting country, certificates of origin need to be issued by the authorized institution of the exporting country, and officially recognized English translation shall be provided for non-English documents

Certification Process

Confirm product classification and control type in advance, and clarify whether it belongs to special controlled categories such as telecommunications;

Prepare a complete set of application materials, including product technical specifications, test reports conforming to IEC standards, certificate of origin, certified commercial invoice, etc.;

Submit the certification application to the corresponding competent authority;

The competent authority conducts document review, and decides whether to require sample testing or port inspection based on product risks;

After passing the review, obtain the qualified certification document, then you can complete customs clearance procedures and launch the product to the market.
